The G20 summit in South Africa adopted a declaration on the climate crisis and other global challenges on Saturday, prepared without the participation of the United States in a step described by a White House official as 'shameful'. Ramaphosa, chairing the G20 leaders' summit in Johannesburg this week, earlier told reporters that the declaration 'cannot be renegotiated', indicating tension between Pretoria and the administration of US President Donald Trump over the summit. A spokesperson for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa added: 'We worked all year on this declaration, and last week was full of work'.
