Three people, including a one-year-old child, died after a building collapsed in the early hours of this Sunday. Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (JEMS) arrived at the scene after 3:00 local time, responding to alerts about people trapped under the rubble. At the time of the collapse, six people were inside the structure. Following the tragedy, emergency officials urged Soweto residents to report visible cracks or unstable walls in their homes to prevent new incidents in areas with precarious construction. Three of the victims—a baby and two adult women—suffered life-threatening injuries and died shortly after. The other three occupants were rescued alive and urgently taken to nearby hospitals. Local authorities have launched investigations to determine the causes of the collapse, though it is suspected that previous structural failures may have triggered it.
